Update 2.5

So this will be the last post of May 2009. Some interesting things have happened the last couple weeks but the most interesting was Friday around 1pm, Sylvia from AT&T left me a voice mail letting me know........................ I GOT THE JOB. Exciting.

By the time I got the message it was to late call her but monday I will call and hope to get more details. I am scheduled the start June 12th but she did mention there is an opening for June 5th if I wanted it but I think it is a bit late to do that. If I had known a week or two ago I might of done it. First off I still need to let my work know and buy some boot that my dad will need to lend me the money for. ($150 is a lot of money for me now.) I am a bit nervous because I'm getting mixed input on what the 7 weeks of training will actually include. I hear all textbooks and tests or very little books and more ride-a-longs or a bit of both. So I ask for more people pray for me to get though my training. I am working Mon, Tues and Weds closing down a blockbuster store in chicago 10-6 and then close Friday in my normal store then I'm DONE!!! But I will offer to work a day or two early in the week after.

So here my summary of what my plans for the next two years. (Subject To Change)
June 12th: Start my job and get a new car soon after.
July 31st: Finishing Training
Around March to April 2010: Have the money and use my two weeks vacation for my dream trip to JAPAN.

Thats It. See how unpredictable my life has been the last few years.

Update 2.4

So I got a phone call on Thursday (5/8) from someone named Sylvia at AT&T Staffing. Just one day after I got the call from the guy who gave me my oral assesment. She was extending the job offer to me with additional details. She commented about William my AT&T contact talking about me and so I guess he came though for me after all. So here are some details.

Pay: $13.08/hr or $523/wk
Benefits: Dental, Medical and Vision
Vacation: One week every 6 Months
Raise Every 6 Months, 10 Paid Holidays and 4 Personal Days.
Union: International Brotherhood of Electrical Wiring Local #21
Uniform: Company branded shirt and long pants or jeans.

She assigned me to a closer garage to my house in Bedford Park, Illinois. I'm scheduled to start June 12th but she will talk to someone today (monday) asking If I can start before then. My first day is in Hoffman Estates all day. Then my 7 weeks of training is in West Mont, Illinois.

She asked me if I accept the conditions and then said I have 24 hours to get my physical. Wow talk about a ring of fire to jump though. That would not be possible if I or someone else had to work to late night and all day the next day.

So I got my physical on Friday (5/8) and according to them I passed it. All I have to wait on my drug-test and background check. I believe I have a 95% chance of getting this job. I left my house at 11am and check-in there around 1:10pm (Had problems finding the place.). This place was in some industrial location off of the Bishop Ford Expressway. WEIRD!!! I waited until 2:40pm (1:30 wait) and was done at 3:30pm. I have to say they had me do everything except a blood test and prostate exam. They had me do my lifting evaluation which included 14 sit ups. The two doctors I saw where white males and the therapy person was a white woman. Not that where would have anything wrong with them if they were black. The therapy lady was very nice except everyone else was not that nice. I think I pulled something because my belly has been hurting since.

Keep praying for me and I believe I will get it soon.

Quick Update 2

Well I just got a phone call from AT&T Staffing the guy did the oral assessment over the phone. He said my answers were satisfactory and said the next step is for them wait on my background check to go though. He said I will be contacted soon to come in for a drug test and 80lb lifting evaluation.

Pay starts at $13.00/hr with a raise every 6 months and tops off at $16.76/hr. Actual pay depends on past experience. The average Installer makes $523/wk (not sure if that's take home.). Training is 7 weeks of workbooks and ride-along and their is intermediate testing in between workbooks to make sure you are retaining the information.

He said I will be selected from a pool of candidates for the position and area I applied for. He said if I'm selected I can expect to be hired the beginning of June. Hope I can hold out until then.

If anyone has any jobs (Networking, Surveillance Cameras, Clean Gutters, Mow Lawn or anything else.) I can make a little money with please let me know.

Quick Update

I got a call on Wednesday (April 29) from William my contact at AT&T that he called his contact in staffing and got her to email me the link to finish my application so they can start my background check but I'm not sure if that means he got me to the next step or skip a step? I guess I will find out more soon. I'm glad I got the call because that means they have not forgotten my application. Keep praying I'm sure it's working.

On a another note. I canceled blockbuster Online and switched to Netflix to try them out mainly because Netflix is only $16.99 compared to $19.95. I loved the in-store exchange blockbuster gave you but once they changed the policy to in-store exchanges counting as rentals it was not worth it anymore. Before I could exchange a movie and watch it as they send my next one but not anymore. Bummer!!!
